WELCOME TO THE YASS RAMS WOOLLY WEBSITE!

******** The Yass Rugby Union Club's MAJOR SPONSOR of the YASS RAMS The CLUB HOUSE HOTEL Welcomes all Rugby players and supporters to the CLUB HOUSE ****************** RAM HISTORY The flickering lamp light of the Commercial Hotel back in 1878 lit a special fire in a few adventurous sporting gentlemen of the Yass District and that glow has continued, some 129 years, and is personified in the Yass Rams.
Though not in consecutive competition the Yass Rams have been a competitive force in the New South Wales and A.C.T. Rugby Unions since adopting the Southern Rugby Rules of 1878 on the fateful May evening with Messrs. R Newton Morris ; Edw. M. Allman at the helm. Their competitors in those formative years are still familiar adversaries such as Goulburn. Other teams of the era that challenged the early Rams included Collector, Lambing Flats (Young), Gunning and Dalton. The return train trips from away matches must have been something to see!
The Rams currently contest the ACTRU`s First Division Competition [First and Second Grade]. Their adversaries include old Monaro rivals Goulburn, Cooma & Hall, armed forces arch-rivals ADFA & RMC and the might of the Vikings, Tuggeranong Rugby Club. In recent times the Rams have been mustered to the Monaro Grand Finals every year since the early nineties. Yass have succeeded in snaring the Monaro Cup on three occasions 95 97 98 and most recently the 2005 RAMS, the impressive Undefeated ACTRU First Division Club Premiers, incorporating the innaugral ACTRU First Division 2005 Club Championship. Former glory recollections included the 1899, 1900 & 1901 Massey Cup, and Premierships in 1966 and 1972 Canberra competitions.
Junior Rugby Union is incredibly strong in Yass and there are currently 12, extremely competitive, sides competing in the A.C.T. Junior Rugby Union competition.
